Installation in FS2002:

1. Unpack/extract the contents of the main zip-file into FS2002's Aircraft folder.
2. Unzip the contents of Gauges.zip to the \Gauges directory of FS2002.

Panel:
As a Panel we recommend our C-124-panel_2 (look at www.fsdesign-berlin.da.ru)

Sound:
The sounds available for the Douglas DC-6 fit very well as sound-data because they are run by similar engines from Pratt & Whitney. Such files can be downloaded free
from Tom Gibson's Classic Airliner website "http://members.aol.com/TGFltsim/" or from "www.SurClaro".

On the plane

The Douglas C-124 C USAF MATS with registration 20950 was used to Tempelhof from 1960 during the decade.

The Douglas C-124 Globemaster II was a major redesign of the C-74 Globemaster (that was developed at the end of World War II) with a new, much larger, two-deck fuselage. The C-124 used the same wings, tail, and engines as the C-74 and could carry more than 200 troops. It had clamshell-type loading doors, built-in double hydraulic ramps and an elevator under the aft fuselage. It could load tanks, field guns, bulldozers and trucks.

The first flight by a C-124 took place on 27 November 1949. The first operational aircraft
were delivered in May 1950, and production ran through May 1955 (204 C-124As and
243 C-124Cs). The improved C-124C featured more-powerful engines, as well as
wingtip-mounted combustion heaters that provided cabin heating and wing and tail
surface deicing, and an APS-42 weather radar in a distinctive nose "thimble." These
latter improvements were eventually retrofitted to the C-124As.

Because of the constant in-flight shaking, rattling, and squeaking, the C-124 was affectionately called "Old Shaky" by flight crews.

These planes went on to provide a much-needed airlift capability in the Korean War, as
it was the only aircraft that could carry many of the Army's vehicles. It also performed
many other missions such as airlift support in the Far East and Southeast Asia,
resupply missions to Antarctica, refugee evacuation, disaster relief, and mercy flights.
Although very reliable, the C-124s were slow (97 hours from Travis AFB, Calif., to Tan
Son Nhut AB, South Vietnam, and back).

Used in conjunction with Douglas C-133s, the Globemaster IIs remained in service until
replaced by the controversial Lockheed C-5A Galaxy in 1970.

By 1970, most C-124s were transferred to the Air Force Reserve and the Air National Guard. Although in production for only five years, the C-124s had a long and useful service life. The last C-124 was phased out in 1974.

VISIT FS BERLIN

The main theme of our webside is the Microsoft flight simulator (FS98/ FS2000/
FS2002) with special regards to Berlin airports - specially to Tempelhof
Central Airport but also to Gatow and Tegel). We will cover the period from
1945 until about 1990, that is, when the west part of Berlin was surrounded
by The Wall and when these airports stood under the command of the west allied
air forces (US Air Force, Royal Air Force and French Air Force). Along with the
world-famous Berlin Airlift this is probably the most exciting period in the
history of these airports.
We want to collect as many aircraft models as possible of such original
airplanes which landed on West-Berlin airports (in this period) and list
them in a comprehensive archive. And we want to repaint such aircraft models
and offer them for downloading.

Please note our newest repaintings of Rey Lopez' Douglas DC-3:

C-47 US Air Force MATS
DC-3 TWA
DC-3 Swissair
DC-3 BEA
